Back into it...

Cobs ended up having his shoes off for almost a week so was tubbing them twice a day to make sure the bruising came out etc. A few days before the shoes went on he was starting to act a little more normal & playful in the paddock so I guessed he was feeling a little better.

Was dead lame at the trot the day the shoes went back on but my farrier said that he should come right in a few days.....so I trotted him out last night and he was a little sore every three/four strides so decided not to ride him and give him more time to heal.

Took him to the showgrounds today and walked round the track a few times & he was striding out like a horse on a mission so decided to try to trot. YAY he was all good :) I didn't want to do too much so trotted every 100 metres for about ten seconds and he seemed sweet as.

So fingers crossed we are now over the worst of it and he is on the right side of healing. I still am going to take it easy for the next week just to make sure he is fine before I start to jump him etc...

Just one of those things....

Well Cobs hasn't been getting any better from standing on his shoe so got the vet out today. He is now dead lame on the other leg so what we think has happened is he has stood on something and bruised the sole and because he isn't putting full weight on his other leg its made this leg sore...does that make sense?? LOL!

So he is having a rest for a while & see what happens. Fingers crossed nothing serious comes out of this - the vet is confident that its just going to take him a while for both feet to sort themselves out bruising wise.

So we are now aiming for end of February to be at our next competition. I got told yesterday that I should sell him as this season hasn't really gone to plan for us with me falling off & now him injuring himself (which could happen to any horse!)....I don't see these things as enough of a reason to sell a horse so I am not even considering this. Its just part of owning horses if you ask me.

X-country lesson at Greenhithe 17th January

Kristal & I met at Greenhithe PC for a combined x-country lesson with Karley. Had such a blast - was great to hang out with Kristal & Flynn as well as we hardly ever compete at the same things.

Cobs was good - I rode like a nana yet again & he took advantage of that which is fair enough. Once I got my shit together & started to ride like I meant it he went much better.

We played around with the water heaps as I have issues dropping in & then jumping out so that was great to work on. We did a little water combo with a jump a few strides before the water, dropped into the water, four strides & jumped out.

We only did pre-training & a few training jumps - I don't want to jump anything smaller than that as we need to get used to jumping that height.

Went round a few more jumps but unfortuantely Cobs managed to twist a shoe off & the quarter clip was jamming into his foot. Luckily Dad had come to watch so he ran home & got some tools & Karley managed to get the shoe off.

He is now incredibly sore though so I hope it hasn't done lots of damage. I have put a hoofeeze boot on to try & relieve some of the pain & fingers crossed the farrier can come out early next week. We had booked in for some comps next weekend but I think they will be off now.

Here are some photos:

Twilight Dressage 15th January

I have only been riding for a week since I fell off & managed to school Cobs twice in that time...despite this we went to the twilight dressage night at Woodhill Sands....interesting LOL!

Could definitely tell that we haven't caught up to where we were before our time off which is to be expected...he didn't go too badly considering this and our marks & comments were fair.

But its still another outing and its just as well I don't go to win :)

Injury Update

Well I am riding again (YAY!!!) - just for half an hour at the moment so will enter him in a competition for end of January so I have time to get fit etc.

Attempted to school him last night but apparently within the last two weeks he has forgotten how to do anything...we shall see about that LOL!

New Years Update

We had another dressage lesson with Karley on the 21st December which went really well. Everything we worked on we nailed pretty quickly so I was really looking forward to the Xmas Holidays so I could concentrate taking us up to more lateral work etc as I would like to do some twilight novice dressage tests on him soon.

All good in theory of course...first night of my holidays (Monday 22nd) I parted company from Cobs and have been in agony ever since. Fell off downhill & landed on my right hip...bloody painful! After having tried chiro & manipulative therapy I still could hardly walk so off I went to an osteo in Albany. I feel much better already a day later & she seemed to think there would be no reason why I couldn't go for a hack this weekend so fingers & toes crossed.

Cobs has been awesome - have attempted to ride twice & he just toddled along like a little RDA pony & really looked after me. I won't try and ride again until I feel up to it as I have lots planned for us and for the sake of a few days it just won't be worth it...just got to keep reminding myself of that LOL!

Trying to do lengthen & shorten his canter stride...not sure where robot leg has come from tho LOL!
